To Use the Filter1BRequests Feature
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
After you install the hotfix, you must add a registry entry. Use this entry to make sure that requests for Domain<1B> are filtered before they are returned to the client. Only names that are on the list of approved domains will be returned.
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WINS\Parameters
- On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: Filter1BRequests
Data type: REG_MULTISZ
Value data: The list of allowed domains. Do not append the <1B> suffix to the domain names. Press ENTER after each name in the list. REG_MULTISZ values do not require a separator character.
- Quit Registry Editor.
