XADM: "ID No c1037f38" Error Message When You Try to Create the System Attendant Resource for an Exchange 2000 Cluster (320218)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q320218

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create the Microsoft Exchange system attendant resource for a cluster virtual server, you receive the following error message after you select a single Network Name, Physical Disk, and IP resource as dependencies for the Microsoft Exchange system attendant resource:
You must specify only one Network Name resource in the dependency list.

ID no: c1037f38
Microsoft Exchange Cluster Administrator Extension
After you receive this error message, you are cannot continue with the process of creating the resource.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you configure a resource that the system attendant depends on (for example, a Physical Disk resource) to be dependent on the Network Name resource. The system attendant resource depends on the Network Name and Physical Disk resources. When Exchange Server checks the resources that the system attendant depends on, it performs a recusive search for all dependencies. It finds the Network Name two times -- one time because the system attendant directly depends on it, and a second time because another resource that the system attendant depends on (the Physical Disk resource, in this example) is also configured to depend on the Network Name resource.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure the resources that the system attendant depends on in such a way that the Network Name resource is found in the dependency list only one time.
