Using Group Policy

To turn off the automatic playing of CD-ROMs:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
2. Right-click the domain or organizational unit that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Group Policy tab, and then click New.
4. In the New Group Policy Object box, type a descriptive name for the Group Policy object (GPO). For example, type Disable Autoplay, and then press ENTER.
5. Click Edit to start Group Policy Editor.
6. In the Computer Configuration section of the GPO, expand the Administrative Templates folder.
7. Click System, and then in the right pane, double-click the Disable Autoplay policy object.
8. Click Enabled, and then confirm that the CD-ROM object is selected.
9. Click OK, quit Group Policy Editor, click the Properties dialog box, and then quit the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.

Editing the Registry

2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

3. Change the Autorun value to 0 (zero).
   
   If you later want to play CD-ROMs automatically again, change the value back to 1.
