McAfee VirusScan 6.1 hangs the computer during a ScanDisk operation (320131)

SYMPTOMS

When you run ScanDisk to scan your hard disk, your computer may stop responding (hang). This problem may occur if Network Associates McAfee VirusScan 6.1 is installed on your computer.

If you view the data that the error report contains, the following error signature information is listed:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

Modify the VirusScan scanning settings:
  1. Start VirusScan (click Start, click All Programs, click McAfee, and then click VirusScan).
  2. In the lower-left corner of the VirusScan window, click Pick a task.
  3. Click Change my VirusScan settings.
  4. Click Configure VShield background scanning.
  5. Click to clear the Enable Internet Filter check box.
  6. Click to clear the Enable Download and E-mail scanning check box.
  7. Click Apply Settings.
  8. Quit VirusScan.

Method 2
