The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q319904 SYMPTOMS
If you use contacts that were imported to Outlook 2002 from another program to create a distribution list or to address a new message, the e-mail addresses for those contacts may appear as commas (,), as semicolons (;), or they may be blank.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if the E-mail Address field of the imported contact data is not mapped correctly to the Outlook 2002 E-mail Address field.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, remove all of the imported contacts from the appropriate Contacts folder and reimport those contacts to Outlook 2002.
Use the Map Custom Fields feature to map the E-mail Address field of the imported contacts to the correct Outlook E-mail Address when you re-import the contacts to Outlook 2002. To do this, follow these steps: NOTE: The Map Custom Fields feature may not be available with certain file source types.
- Start Outlook 2002.
- In the Folder List, click the folder that contains the imported contacts. If you do not see the Folder List pane, click Folder List on the View menu.
- Right-click the contacts that you want to delete, and then click Delete. To select more than one contact, hold the CTRL key while you click the contacts that you want to delete.
- On the File menu, click Import and Export.
- Under Choose action to perform, click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
- Under Select the file type to import from, click the program or file type that you want to import the contact data from (for example, click Comma Separated Values (Windows)), and then click Next.
- In the File to import box, click Browse, locate the file that you want to import, and then click OK.
- Under Options, specify how you want Outlook 2002 to handle duplicate items, and then click Next.
- In the Select a destination folder box, click the folder that you want to import the information into (for example, click Contacts), and then click Next.
- Click Map Custom Fields.
- In the To box, click the plus sign (+) next to E-mail. The E-mail Address field appears in the list.
- In the From box, drag the entry that corresponds to the contact's e-mail address (for example, E-mail or E-mail Address) to the E-mail Address field in the To box.
- Repeat steps 8 and 9 to map any other fields that you want.
- Click OK, and then click Finish.
