The Configuration Connection Agreement Does Not Replicate the Information (319889)

SYMPTOMS

The Configuration Connection Agreement (config_ca) may not replicate the information between the Windows Active Directory (AD) and the Site Replication Service (SRS). The Active Directory Connector (ADC) fails and you may find error messages similar to the following in the Application Log:

Event ID: 8118
Description:
Could not locate the export container cn=Configuration,ou=SITE,o=ORG Make sure that the configured container exists, or that the account in the Connection Agreement has permissions to access the container. Replication stopped for this Connection Agreement.

Description:
The service threw an unexpected exception.

Description:
Processing of the Connection Agreement 'Config CA_First Administrative Group' has been stopped due to an invalid configuration. Check the event log for more information.

RESOLUTION

Use the ADSI Editor to check the following attributes on the config_ca and make sure that the specified containers exist and are spelled correctly. The object is located at CN=Config_ca_sitename,CN=Active Directory Connections,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain:
  • msexchserver1exportcontainer
  • msexchserver2exportcontainer
  • msexchserver1importcontainer
  • msexchserver2importcontainer

WARNING: If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.
  1. Open the Support\Tools folder on the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM.
  2. Double-click the Support.cab file.
  3. Right-click the Adsiedit.msc file, and then click Extract.
  4. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, click the %systemroot%\System32 folder, and then click OK.
  5. Double-click the Support.cab file.
  6. Right-click the Adsiedit.dll file, and then click Extract.
  7. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, click the %systemroot%\System32 folder, and then click OK.
  8. Close the Support.cab window.
  9. Close the Microsoft Windows 2000 CD dialog box.
  10. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 adsiedit.dll, and then click OK.
  11. Click OK to confirm the registration.
  12. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 adsiedit.msc, and then click OK.
