Outlook 97 signatures are not migrated if you use the User State Migration Tool (319855)

SYMPTOMS

If you use the User State Migration Tool to migrate Microsoft Office 97 or Microsoft Outlook 97 user settings, the e-mail signatures in Outlook 97 are not migrated.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem:
  1. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer, and then browse to the location of the User State Migration Tool files.
  2. Right-click Migapp.inf, and then click Open With.
  3. In the Programs list, click Notepad, and then click OK.
  4. Scroll to the following section of the Migapp.inf file.

    [Outlook98.97 Copyfiles]

  5. Type the following text at the end of the [Outlook98.97 Copyfiles] section, and then press ENTER:

    %WINDIR%\*.rtf

  6. On the File menu, click Save.
  7. Quit Microsoft Notepad.
  8. Run the ScanState.exe program again to migrate the user account settings.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
