Temporary Files Remain After You Save a Document to a Computer That Is Running SharePoint Portal Server (319747)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001

This article was previously published under Q319747

SYMPTOMS

If you save a document to a computer that is running SharePoint Portal Server, two temporary files may remain on the client computer:
  • A 0-byte file in the Temp folder.
  • A copy of the document in a subfolder of the following folder:

    user_profile\Application Data\Microsoft\Msdaipp\Offline

This is a hidden system folder. To display this folder, turn off the Hide protected operating system files option in the Explorer View options.
These files may not be deleted when you close the document.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

312963 How to Obtain the Latest SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack

A fix is available that resolves the problem of the 0-byte file in the Temp folder.

The English version of this fix has the following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
   --------------------------------------------------------------
   14-JUN-2002 03:43 10.145.4629.25 1.187.840 Msdaipp.dll

NOTE: Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 1

WORKAROUND

The documents in the Msdaipp cache are removed when the cache is flushed. The cache is flushed with the Microsoft Internet Explorer cache. The size of the cache is the same as the size of the Internet Explorer cache.

To work around the problem of the document copy in the Msdaipp cache, set the size of the cache in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 so that it is flushed:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Set the cache size that you want to use, click OK, and then click OK again to close the dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 2.
