How to set up Microsoft Project Server 2002 on Windows Server 2003 (319281)

To install and configure Microsoft Project Server 2002 on a computer with Windows Server 2003 installed, follow these steps as they apply to your specific configuration scenario.

Note Follow these steps in the order presented. Do not skip steps unless you are instructed to do so.

Step 1: Turn on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and Active Server Pages (ASP)

Note If you previously turned on IIS and ASP on a computer with Windows 2000 Server installed, and then upgraded to Windows Server 2003, follow these steps to make sure that IIS and ASP are still turned on.

To turn on IIS and ASP, follow these steps.

Note You must have your Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM to follow these steps.

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components to open the Windows Components Wizard dialog box.
3. Click Application Server, and then click Details to open the Application Server dialog box.
4. Click Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click Details to open the Internet Information Services (IIS) dialog box.
5. Click World Wide Web Services, and then click Details to open the World Wide Web Services dialog box.
6. Click the box to the left of the text that reads Active Server Pages to turn on ASP and IIS.
7. Click OK three times.
8. In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click Next.
9. Click Finish.

Step 2: Verify That Your Web Sites Have Not Stopped When You Upgrade to Windows Server 2003

Note This step only applies if you previously installed Microsoft Project Server 2002 on a computer running Windows 2000 Server, and then upgraded to Windows Server 2003. If you are installing a new installation of Microsoft Project Server 2002 on a computer with Windows Server 2003 installed, go to the next set of steps.

When you upgrade to Windows Server 2003, your Web site may have stopped. To verify that you Web sites have not stopped, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
2. In the left pane, click your server.
3. In the right pane, double-click Web Sites.
4. If one of your Web sites has unexpectedly stopped, right-click your Web site in the left pane, and then click Start.

Step 3: Install Microsoft Project Server 2002

Note The following steps apply only if you are doing a new installation of Microsoft Project Server 2002 on a computer running Windows Server 2003. If Microsoft Project Server 2002 has already been installed and you have recently upgraded from Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003, go to the next set of steps.

To install Microsoft Project Server 2002, follow these steps:

1. Insert your Microsoft Project Server 2002 CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive, and then let Setup autorun to start the setup process.
2. In the Project Server 2002 Setup dialog box, click Server installation.
   
   If you receive the following message, click Continue. Microsoft Project Server 2002
   
   Microsoft Project Server 2002 is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, contact Microsoft.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Microsoft Project Server 2002.

Step 4: Install the Microsoft Project Server 2002 Update: KB 319281

Download and install the Microsoft Project Server 2002 Update: KB 319281. To do this, follow these steps.

Note For localized versions of Project Server 2002, where the patch is unavailable, download and apply the English version of the Microsoft Project Server 2002 Update: KB 319281.

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

   http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/9/9/4999439b-7c9f-4260-a05e-decd31ecb889/ps1002.exe

2. Click Save to save the ps1002.exe file to the selected folder.
3. In Windows Explorer, double-click ps1002.exe.
4. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
5. When you receive a message that indicates the installation was successful, click OK.

For additional information about how to download and install this update, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note If you are publishing files from Microsoft Project 2000 to Microsoft Project Server 2002, you must enable Anonymous Access for the Pjdbcomm.dll file in IIS 6.0 on the computer running Microsoft Project Server.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type Inetmgr in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Expand the Web site that you installed Microsoft Project Server to (for example Default Web site), and then locate the following folder:

   ISAPI

   folder.
3. In the right pane, right-click Pjdbcomm.dll, and then click Properties.
4. Click the File Security tab, and then click Edit under Authentication and access control.
5. Click to select the Enable anonymous access check box.
6. Click to select the Integrated Windows authentication check box.
7. Click OK two times, and then close the Internet Information Services dialog box.
