SYMPTOMS

Your laptop computer's IP address may become 0.0.0.0 after the laptop hibernates if network connectivity is lost before the laptop hibernates. When the laptop returns from hibernation with network connectivity restored, the IP address is 0.0.0.0.

You can see this issue by using the ipconfig command. To view your computer's IP address, type ipconfig at a command prompt. Using the ipconfig /renew command does not restore the IP address.

This problem was first seen on Windows 2000 with Quality of Service (QoS) and the Sniffer Pro 4.5 software by Checkpoint Software installed.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because laptop computer power-management state changes are sent to the Psched.sys driver, but the Psched.sys driver is not propagating. This causes MEDIA_CONNECT_STATUS messages to be sent to the transport that is bound above the Psched.sys miniport driver.
