SYMPTOMS

If a print job that is rendered by a client is printed to a Windows NT-based or Windows 2000-based print server, the print job shows zero pages, even though the job size in bytes is shown correctly.

Event ID 10, which refers to the print job, displays information in the following format:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Print
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: COMPUTERNAME
Description:
Document 2, Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc owned by User was printed on Printer via port LPT1:. Size in bytes: 0; pages printed: 1

CAUSE

If the Windows NT-based or Windows 2000-based server does not render the data, the server cannot determine how many pages are included in the print job. This is correct behavior for jobs that are submitted with the RAW data type.

All print jobs from computers that run Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) are assigned the RAW data type because the print data has already been rendered on the client. Print jobs from Windows NT-based and Windows 2000-based clients that connect to shared printers as network printers are automatically assigned the EMF data type, unless a data type has been assigned by the client.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
