This article was previously published under Q319022 SYMPTOMS
If you open an HTML page that contains many non-ASCII characters, it may take much longer for the page to be loaded than it takes to load the same page without extended characters. These non-ASCII characters are characters with a hexadecimal value above 0x80, such as the umlaut character. This problem occurs in Internet Explorer 6. This problem does not occur in earlier versions of Internet Explorer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
