IntelliPoint 4.0: "HPVLS60" or "HPFVLS06" Error Message or Printer Problem After You Install IntelliPoint 4.0 Software (318845)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.0, your printer does not work, or you receive one of the following error messages:
HPFVLS60 has caused an error.

-or-

HPFVLS06 Caused a general protection fault in module HPFVLS06.exe.


After you click OK, your computer continues to run fine.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have a Hewlett-Packard (HP) HP720C printer or HP722C printer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, Microsoft Windows 2000

These operating systems have built-in support for your mouse, so IntelliPoint does not need to be installed.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. (In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel.)
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. (In Windows XP, click Add or Remove Programs.)
  3. Click IntelliPoint 4.0, and then click Change.
  4. In the IntelliPoint dialog box, click Remove.

Method 2: Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Select IntelliPoint 4.0, and then click Remove.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Download the current version of Microsoft IntelliPoint: The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Method 3: Turn Off Point 32

NOTE: Microsoft Windows 2000 does not support the Systems Configuration Utility.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.

    The Systems Configuration Utility starts.
  3. Click the Startup tab.
  4. Clear the Point 32 check box, click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Restart your computer.
