Visual Basic compatibility DLLs are missing from the Redist.txt file (318833)

SYMPTOMS

The Redist.txt file that is installed with Visual Studio .NET does not list the following files:
  • Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll
  • Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll
Note: These files are included with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET to assist with the upgrade process. They are not intended for use in new project development.

CAUSE

These files were erroneously omitted from the Redist.txt file.

STATUS

This bug was corrected in Visual Studio .NET (2003) Enterprise Architect Edition and Visual Studio .NET (2003) Professional Edition.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Locate the Redist.txt file in the folder where you installed Visual Studio .NET (for example, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET).
  2. Open the Redist.txt file in Notepad or another text editor. Note that both the Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll and the Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll files are not listed.
