OL2002 - Outlook Stops Responding When a Recurring Meeting Has a Corrupted 'First Day Of Week' Field (318742)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to view a Calendar that has a corrupted First Day Of Week field in a recurring meeting, Outlook 2002 stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a problem in Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) that causes the corrupted data to be placed in the recurring meetings. This problem was fixed by a CDO hotfix in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

281935 XADM: CDO Can Corrupt Data in Recurring Appointments

Apply the hotfix that is in the "Resolution" section of this article to Outlook 2002, and it masks the loop that is caused by the bad data so that you have access to the Calendar while you apply the Microsoft Exchange Server hotfix on your server. Therefore, you must apply the hotfix in this article to the Microsoft Outlook client first, and then apply the hotfix for the Exchange Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
