The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q318720 SYMPTOMS
If you try to use the HP Rockwell HCF 56k modem, you do not receive a dial tone. This behavior can also occur after you download the most recent drivers for this modem.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because this modem is not compatible with Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) because of an interrupt request (IRQ) conflict. Windows 2000 supports ACPI-compliant BIOS versions.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, turn off the ACPI functionality in the computer BIOS.
NOTE: If you change the ACPI state in the BIOS, you may not be able to start the computer. Some computer manufactures do not allow you to modify the ACPI state in the BIOS.
