Windows Media Player Stops Playing a DVD Movie After Resuming from a 3D Screen Saver (318586)

SYMPTOMS

If a 3D screen saver starts while Windows Media Player is playing a DVD movie, only the audio portion of the movie may be played when you resume the computer from the screen saver. Windows Media Player may also stop playing the movie completely when you resume from the screen saver. To resume the playback, you may have to quit and restart Windows Media Player.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not allow the screen saver to start while a DVD is being played:
  1. Start Windows Media Player.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Player tab.
  4. Click to clear the Allow screen saver during playback check box.
  5. Quit Windows Media Player and then start it again.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
