If you try to manage a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based printer server from a Windows 2000-based computer to install an OEM version 3 driver, you may receive the following error message:
The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a compatible driver from the list, or contact your administrator for help.
This error message may occur after you follow the steps in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
263090 How to Install a Windows 2000 Print Driver in Windows NT 4.O for Point and Print
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, place the version 3 printer driver's .inf file in the %SystemRoot%\Inf folder on the Windows 2000-based computer. After you do this, you are prompted to provide a path to the driver installation files instead of receiving the error message.
