When you try to use Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 with the Windows Media Encoder version 7.0 or 7.1 installed, you receive the following error message:
Failed to start Windows Media Server ASF session
CAUSE
PowerPoint 2002 does not correctly start versions 7.0 and 7.1 of the Windows Media Encoder.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use version 4.1 of the Windows Media Encoder. To do this, remove version 7.0 or 7.1 of the Windows Media Encoder. After you install version 7.0 or 7.1 of the Windows Media Encoder, version 4.1 of the Windows Media Encoder is still installed and is used by PowerPoint. When you use the Windows Media Administrator to view a station, the source for the Multicast station appears as "http://servername:0". This indicates that the port is 0 instead of the configured port of 1055.
