TaxCut Deluxe 2001 causes an error message in Windows XP (318493)

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the H & R Block TaxCut Deluxe 2001 program, you may receive the following error message:
Taxcut.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you click the click here link at the bottom of the message box, you receive error signature information that is similar to the following information: 
   App name    App version  Module name  Module version  Offset
   --------------------------------------------------------------
   Taxcut.exe  1.0.0.1      Taxcut.exe   1.0.0.1         00073b00

CAUSE

This issue occurs because TaxCut Deluxe 2001 is not completely compatible with Microsoft Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain and install the most current Windows Compatibility Update from the Critical Updates section of the following Microsoft Web site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
