FIX: The list in the IP Address box may be empty in Internet Information Services (318383)

SYMPTOMS

On the Web Site Properties dialog box of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), you may notice that the list in the IP Address box is empty.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the computer name of a Web server begins with a numeric character.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Change the computer name to start with a numeric character.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type inetmgr, and then click OK. The Internet Information Services window appears.
  3. Expand Your Server, right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties. The Default Web Site Properties dialog box appears.

    Note Your Server is a placeholder for the name of your computer.

    On the Web Site tab of the Default Web Site Properties dialog box, you notice that the list in the IP Address box is empty.
