SYMPTOMS

When you browse the network by using My Network Places or by typing net view at a command prompt, you may receive the following error message:
System Error 1230 has occurred.

An invalid operation was attempted on an active network connection.

CAUSE

This error message may occur in a single-server environment where one Windows 2000-based server functions as a file server, a print server, and the browse master for the network. The error message may occur if a direct host (port 445) connection from a client exists with a pending Server Message Block (SMB) transaction. When the Computer Browser service tries to connect to the same server (because the server is also the browse master) by using NetBIOS over TCP/IP (port 139), a conflict occurs.
