Visio2000: Visio Solution Does Not Load Correctly When You Attempt to Open It (318325)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a solution in Microsoft Visio, the solution fails to load correctly. The components of the solution, such as solution-specific menus and stencils, do not appear in the drawing window. Instead, you receive only a blank drawing page.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the solution is damaged or if it is not installed correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Repair the Installation of Visio

  1. Quit all programs that are running on your computer, including any virus-protection programs.
  2. Insert the Visio CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
  3. Click Install Visio 2000.
  4. On the "Welcome to the Visio Installation Manager" page, click Next.
  5. On the Setup Operation page, click Reinstall/Repair, and then click Next.
  6. On the Setup Preview page, click Next.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Start Visio, and then open the solution to verify that it opens correctly.

Method 2: Reinstall the Solution

  1. Quit all programs that are running on the computer, including any virus-protection programs.
  2. Insert the Visio CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive while holding down the SHIFT key to prevent the installation program from starting automatically.
  3. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer, and then browse to drive:\Install\bin folder, where drive is the computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
  4. Double-click SolutionName.msi where SolutionName is the name of the solution that you want to reinstall. For example, if you want to reinstall the Block Diagram solution, double-click Block_Diagram.msi.
  5. Click Reinstall.
  6. Click Finish.
  7. Start Visio, and then open the solution to verify that it opens correctly.
