Active Directory Latency Rules Show Error Messages for Removed Domain Controllers (318318)

SYMPTOMS

Active Directory latency scripts that are located in the Active Directory Availability processing rule group may show error messages and warnings. The messages identify a domain controller that is no longer part of the Active Directory infrastructure.

CAUSE

If a Windows 2000 domain controller is removed from the network without using Dcpromo.exe or a typical domain-controller-removal utility (such as NTDSUTIL), "orphan" Active Directory entries remain. Active Directory Latency scripts generate error messages and warnings if there are "orphan" objects in Active Directory.

RESOLUTION

Start the Active Directory Site and Services snap-in, and then verify that the domain controllers are all current. Delete any "ghost" domain controllers. Also, update the MomLatencyMonitor container to make sure that the domain controllers list is current.
