When you attempt to install Microsoft Visio 2002, Visio Setup may stop responding (hang). Or, you may receive an error message similar to one of the following during Setup:
Source is corrupt
MSIEXEC caused an Invalid Page Fault in KERNEL32.DLL
As a result, you are unable to install Visio.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if there are other programs or services running on your computer that prevent the installation of Visio.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, start Microsoft Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and services. This process, also known as a clean boot, provides as stable an installation environment as possible in which to install Visio. After you perform a clean boot, copy the contents of the Visio compact disc to a new folder on your computer's hard disk, and then run Visio Setup from this location. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Windows Explorer, and then create a new folder on your computer's hard disk.
- Insert the Visio compact disc into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- In Windows Explorer, browse to the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive that contains the Visio compact disc, and then copy the contents of the disc to the folder that you created in step 1.
- Quit Windows Explorer.
- Restart Windows by using a clean boot. For additional information about how to perform a clean boot, click the article numbers below
