Application Management Pack Setup Generates "An Unexpected Error Was Encountered While Setup" Error Message (318085)

SYMPTOMS

While you are installing the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Application Management Pack, you may receive the following error message:

An Unexpected error was encountered while setup

If you review the OperationsInstall.log file, you see the following entry:

CAUSE

This problem occurs if there is more than 32 gigabytes (GB) of available free space in the OnePoint database. The maximum supported size for the OnePoint database is 30 GB (as described in the Configuration Guide). Database that are larger than 30 GB may experience performance degradation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, shrink the size of your OnePoint database so that there is less than 32 GB of available free space.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
