This article was previously published under Q318004 SYMPTOMS When you try to print from Visual Studio .NET (VS .NET) and
no printer is installed on the Windows XP operating system, you receive a
prompt to install a printer. If you try to install a printer from VS .NET, the
VS .NET interactive development environment (IDE) may close unexpectedly
(crash). RESOLUTION To avoid this potential problem, install the printer from
outside the VS .NET IDE. To install a printer, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add a printer.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to add a
printer.
