SYMPTOMS

After you install the Windows Server 2003 Administrative Tools (Adminpak.msi) on a Windows XP-based computer, the Terminal Services Manager Console (Tsadmin.exe) may not work correctly. Specifically, some of the tabs in the tool administrators that view lists of running processes either on the server or in individual sessions may not contain any entries.

CAUSE

This problem may occur because the tool requires an updated version of the Winsta.dll file to work properly. The required version of the Winsta.dll file is included in Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you (or an administrator) must apply Windows XP SP1 to your Windows XP-based workstation(s).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Microsoft Windows 2000 version of the Terminal Services Manager program displays process information for Windows Server 2003-based servers, but does not install properly on Windows XP-based computer.

The Windows Server 2003 version of the Terminal Services Manger program works properly when you run it on Windows Server 2003-based servers because Windows Server 2003 already has the updated version of the Winsta.dll file.
