IntelliPoint: Error message when you install IntelliPoint: Internal error 2735, upgrade manager (317787)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, uninstall IntelliPoint, download Microsoft IntelliPoint 3.1a, and then install IntelliPoint 3.1a in Safe mode.

Note Because of changes in the software-installation process for Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.0, you cannot install IntelliPoint 4.0 while in Safe mode. Therefore, use the following methods to install IntelliPoint 3.1a.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Uninstall Intellipoint

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.
3. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select Microsoft IntelliPoint, and then click Change.
4. In the Microsoft IntelliPoint Setup dialog box, click Remove.

Remove temporary files

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Drives list, select the computer's hard disk (usually drive C), and then click OK.
3. Click the Disk Cleanup tab, click to select the Temporary files check box, click OK, and then click Yes to confirm.

Download and install Intellipoint 3.1a

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site, and then download Microsoft IntelliPoint 3.1a:

   http://download.microsoft.com/download/intellimouseex/Install/3.1a/WIN98Me/EN-US/ENG.exe

   Note IntelliPoint 3.1a may not contain the exact features as the version of IntelliPoint that was installed on the computer.
2. Click the IntelliPoint 3.1a download link, and then follow the instructions for downloading.
3. Click Start, and then click Shut Down.
4. In the Shut Down dialog box, select Restart, and then click OK.
5. When the computer begins to restart, press F8. On the Advanced Options menu, select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
6. Locate the IntelliPoint 3.1a version that you downloaded, and then install it.
7. Click Start, and then click Shut Down.
8. In the Shut Down dialog box, select Restart, and then click OK.
9. Locate and start IntelliPoint.

After you download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, perform the steps in the "Resolution" section of this article once again. After you uninstall IntelliPoint, run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and then reinstall IntelliPoint 3.1a.
