OL2002: Your Custom Column Widths in the Address Book Window Reset to the Default Widths After the 'Select Names' Dialog Box Appears (317747)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q317747

SYMPTOMS

If you customize the column widths in the Address Book window, create a new message, and then click the To, Cc, or Bcc box to display the Select Names dialog box, your custom column widths are reset to the default widths the next time that you open the Address Book.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Select Names dialog box and the main Address Book window share the same registry value for storing column widths. However, when the Select Names dialog is opened, it does not read from the Windows Registry. The Select Names dialog box always uses the built-in default values for the column widths. But, when the Select Names dialog box is closed, it writes the default values back to the Windows Registry.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The column widths for the Address Book window and the Select Names dialog box are stored in the ABColWidths binary value under the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences
