Transferring a .wmv File to a Mobile Device Transfers Only the Audio Portion of the Video (317613)

When you transfer a .wmv movie file to a mobile device by using Windows Media Player 7.1, only the audio portion of the video may be transferred.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the movie file was encrypted by using the Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager 7.1 SDK.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, upgrade your operating system to Microsoft Windows XP. The version of Windows Media Player that is included with Windows XP contains functionality to transfer encrypted videos to a mobile device. Earlier versions of Windows Media Player do not contain this functionality.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods:
- For media providers: Do not encrypt movie files with the Windows Media Rights Manager SDK.
- For Windows Media Player users: Obtain a movie file that is not encrypted, or view the video in Windows Media Player 7.1 on your PC.
