This article was previously published under Q317458 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install Microsoft Project to a drive other than the drive that contains Microsoft Windows, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Insufficient Disk Space
The highlighted volumes do not have enough disk space available for the currently selected features.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when there is not enough space on the drive that contains Windows for the Setup program to copy temporary files. Microsoft Project requires approximately 55 megabytes (MB) of free space on this drive during a typical install.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use the following methods to make more space available on the Windows drive.
Delete Temporary Files
Temporary files are normally removed by programs when the files are no longer needed. Sometimes temporary files are left behind and can be safely deleted.
- Quit all programs that are running.NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- Type *.tmp in the Named box, and then click Find Now.
- On the Edit menu, click Select All.
- On the File menu, click Delete, and then close the Find dialog box.
Delete Temporary Internet Files
Temporary Internet files are cached copies of the Web pages that you access, as
well as supplementary files such as graphic images and videos. You may
find that Web pages that you have accessed in the past take longer to load the
first time that you visit them after you delete these cached files.
To delete temporary Internet files, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet.
- On the General tab, click Delete Files, and then click OK twice.
Empty the Recycle Bin
To empty the recycle bin, follow these steps:
- Double-click the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop.
- On the File menu, click Empty Recycle Bin. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the items.
- Close the Recycle Bin window.
