SYMPTOMS

If the Cluster Administrator tool is not properly installed on a client workstation, the tool may appear to be functional but does not display the Parameters tab in any property sheets. Also, the Security tab is missing in the Cluster Name property sheet.

CAUSE

If you copy the Cluadmin.exe file from the %SystemRoot%\Cluster folder on a node on which clustering is installed to a Windows 2000-based or Microsoft Windows XP-based client, the tool seems to run, but has limited functionality. This behavior occurs because the associated registry keys that are typically created by the installer are missing.

RESOLUTION

You can remotely administer cluster servers from client workstations. However, before you can do so, you must install the Cluster Administrator tool properly. To install the Cluster Administrator tool, obtain and install the appropriate Adminpak.msi file for the client.

For Windows XP-based clients, install the Adminpak.msi file for Microsoft Windows Server 2003. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Additional information, including information about which versions of Cluster Administrator you can run on different clients, is available in the online Help for the Cluster Administrator tool.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000.
