User Manager Does Not Display Horizontal Scroll Bars with Long Group Names (317308)

SYMPTOMS

If you are using the User Manager tool in Windows 2000 to administer users in a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based domain, and you are managing a user's group membership, the group names may be truncated. It may be difficult to differentiate among groups.

In the Windows NT 4.0 version of User Manager, a horizontal scroll bar appears in this situation.

CAUSE

Support for horizontal scroll bars in Windows NT 4.0 was added in the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

231622 Long Names of Local or Global Groups Truncated in Group Memberships Dialog Box

This change was not ported to Windows 2000 until now.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
