FIX: Real-Time Cube Unable to Re-Establish SQL Server Connection After Network Errors Occur (317265)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services

This article was previously published under Q317265
BUG #: 12767 (plato7x)

SYMPTOMS

With real-time update enabled for a cube, Analysis Services maintains a listener thread to receive notifications from the Microsoft SQL Server data source about updates to dimension or fact tables associated with specific relational OLAP (ROLAP) dimension or partitions involved. For more information, see the "Real-Time Cube" topic in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Books Online.

Analysis Services may lose the connection to the backend SQL Server due to some unexpected network errors. When Analysis Services loses a connection because of unexpected network errors, browsing the real-time cube returns #Err for all cells. However, the connection cannot be resumed just by refreshing the data source because this error message occurs:

Fail to refresh data source with error:
Failed to inform the Analysis server to refresh the connection to the ' ' data sources.
Error:
Unable to open transaction to the server.
Server initializing Data Source ' '.
