SYMPTOMS

When you restart your Windows NT Server 4.0-based computer after you install the Post-Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a (SP6a) Security Rollup Package (SRP), you may receive the following STOP (blue screen) error message:
*** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xc0000005, 0x8010A975, 0x00000001, 0x00000004)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED *** address 8010a975, has base at 80100000 - ntoskrnl.exe

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your computer contains mismatched versions of the following operating system files:

tcpip.sys
netbt.sys
raspptpe.sys

This behavior can occur if, before you install the SRP, you install Remote Access Service (RAS) but do not reapply Windows NT 4.0 SP6a before you restart your computer.

NOTE: The current versions of these files are included with SP6a for Windows NT 4.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.
