FP2000: Microsoft Management Console Quits If You Click the Server Extensions Tab (317231)

If you click the Server Extensions tab in Internet Services Manager, the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) may unexpectedly quit.
You receive no warning message. A Dr. Watson log is created.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if you installed the following Microsoft Security Bulletin, MS01-035:

The behavior occurs because a version of this hotfix introduced a bug in the MMC Snap-in extension. To verify that you are using the affected version of the hotfix, follow these steps:
- Start Windows Explorer, and then locate the following files:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\Bin\Fp4Areg.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\Bin\Fp4awel.dll - Right-click a file, and then click Properties.
- Click the Version tab, and then note the file version.
The affected files are version 4.0.2.5121.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Service Release 1.3 (SR 1.3). This service release is a no-charge update for the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
