XCON: Connector for cc:Mail Does Not Start After You Upgrade a Domain Controller to Windows Server 2003 (317188)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to run the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail on an Exchange 2000 computer that uses a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based domain controller, the connector may not start and you may receive the following error message:
Internal Error: HrInit Failed with error: 8004010b.
The Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail service cannot be started. Please verify that the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail has been configured correctly using the Microsoft Exchange Administrator.
The following event ID message may be logged in the application log of the Exchange 2000 computer:

Description: Failed to initialize the internal configuration object. Ensure that the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail has been configured correctly. Initialization problems could also be due to failure to bind to the Microsoft Active Directory. Ensure that the values for HomeDSA, Organization, OrgUnit, and CommonName are correct in the registry under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeCCMC\Parameters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Connector for cc:Mail service uses the Exchange Directory Service (XDS) interface to access Active Directory. However, the XDS interface is no longer supported in Windows Server 2003 and later.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
