XADM: You Receive a "c00704bc" Error Message While Opening the Properties of a Public Folder in Exchange System Manager (317180)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, move the public folder Active Directory objects back to their default organizational unit, which is the Microsoft Exchange System Objects organizational unit.

NOTE: Although you can use the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to move directory objects out of the Microsoft Exchange System Objects organizational unit, you cannot use this same tool to move directory objects back into the Microsoft Exchange System Objects organizational unit.

To move the directory objects back to the Microsoft Exchange System Objects organizational unit, you need to use ADSI Edit.

WARNING: If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.

ADSI Edit is located on the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD in the Support\Tools folder. To install this tool, run the Setup.exe program under this folder. For additional information about the ADSI Edit tool, refer to the following file: To move the directory objects back to the Microsoft Exchange System Objects organizational unit:

1. After you install ADSI Edit, click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows 2000 Support Tools. Click Tools, and then click ADSI Edit to start ADSI Edit.
2. Expand the Domain NC container. After you do so, a structure is displayed that is similar to the structure in the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in.
3. Locate the organizational unit that the public folder directory objects were moved to.
4. Locate the object that you want to move, right-click that object, click Move, and then click the Microsoft Exchange System Objects organizational unit.

Note that with ADSI Edit, you can move only one directory object at a time. If you want to move multiple objects at the same time, use ADSI scripting.
