Metadirectory Performance Counters Are Not Visible in a Terminal Services Session (317139)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS) performance counters may not be visible in a Microsoft Windows Terminal Server session.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use either of the methods that are described in this section.

Method 1: View the Performance Counters Locally on the Console

  1. From the MMS server console, click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Performance.
  2. Click Add, and then click Use Local Computer Counters.
  3. Under Performance object, click Microsoft Metadirectory Services.
  4. Under Select Counters from List, click the counters that you want to add.

    Hold down the CTRL key to add more than one counter. For more information about a counter, click the counter, and then click Explain.
  5. Click Add.
  6. If the counters that you added do not appear, repeat steps 1 through 5.
  7. After all of the counters are loaded, right-click the top charting area, and then click Save As to save the counter settings.

    The counter settings are saved in a file that has an .htm file name extension.
  8. To reload the counters settings, double-click the .htm file that you created in step 7.

Method 2: View the Performance Counters Remotely from Another Computer

  1. From another remote computer, click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Performance.
  2. Click Add, click Select counters from computer, and then either type the name or the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the MMS server.
  3. Under Performance object, click Microsoft Metadirectory Services.
  4. Under Select Counters from List, click the counters that you want to add.

    Hold down the CTRL key to add more than one counter. For more information about a counter, click the counter, and then click Explain.
  5. Click Add.
  6. If the counters that you added do not appear, repeat steps 1 through 5.
  7. After all of the counters are loaded, right-click the top charting area, and then click Save As to save the counter settings.

    The counter settings are saved in a file that has an .htm file name extension.
  8. To reload the counters settings, double-click the .htm file that you created in step 7.
