The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002
This article was previously published under Q317028 SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to install Mobile Information Server, you may receive the following error message:
Failed to extend AD schema. Setup cannot set the update flag schema master. Set the flag manually.
Do you want to continue installation, yes or no? Schema master:
CAUSE
This issue can occur if Mobile Information Server Setup cannot update the flag schema master when Mobile Information Server is attempting to extend the information in Active Directory. A permissions issue is the most likely cause of this type of error message.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, make sure that you have the correct permissions to run Mobile Information Server Setup. To run Setup with the /vForestPrep=1 switch (which extends the Active Directory schema to include the objects and attributes that are necessary to complete the
Mobile Information Server installation), you must be a member of the built-in Schema Administrators group.
After the Active Directory schema is extended, a user must be a member of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer's Local Administrators group, as well as a member of the Domain Administrators group, to install Mobile Information Server on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer.
