SUMMARY

This article describes how to install only the Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging service, without other services such as Messaging and Collaboration. Users can use the Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging service to communicate in real time and to determine the status of individual contacts (for example, online, away, out to lunch, and so on).

MORE INFORMATION

To install only the Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging service:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type E:\Setup\i386\SETUP.EXE /ForestPrep in the Run box (where E is the letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive), and then click OK.
  2. Accept the default settings during the ForestPrep process. The Setup program extends the Active Directory schema to add Exchange-specific classes and attributes.
