HTML Mail Interface Subfolder Operations Fail After You Apply the Updates from Q287151 or Q306035 (316878)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.5

This article was previously published under Q316878

SYMPTOMS

If you apply the fixes from either or both of the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles to Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 2.5 HTML Mail Interface, you can create subfolders within your mailbox:

287151 HMI Address Book Lost Without Warning if Quota Is Exceeded

306035 HMTL Mail Interface Service (HMI) Fails and Causes IIS to Access Violate

However, if you create a subfolder below an existing folder, such as a second level folder, the following error message is generated:
Line: 62
Char: 1
Error: 'TRUE' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: http://hostname/IP address/email/navmail.asp
After you create the subfolder, the folder's frame remains blank until you delete the folder.

The normal commands for the folder, such as Move and Copy, continue to function but the folder's frame remains blank.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a typographical error that is introduced in the Renobj.dll file that is supplied in the fixes in articles Q287151 and Q306035.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name Platform
   -------------------------------------------------------------
   31-Jan-02 23:44 8.0.402.0 528,896 Renobj.dll x86

WORKAROUND

Currently, the only workaround is to limit the usage of folders to one level deep. You can still use subfolders beyond one level, but the folder's frame will remain blank.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Commercial Internet System 2.5.
