This article was previously published under Q316866 SYMPTOMS When you try to install Microsoft Money, you may
receive an error message similar to the following: Incorrect command line parameter CAUSE This behavior occurs when the path to the TEMP folder is
incorrect or truncated. If the path to a folder for that stores temporary files
is incorrect, Windows Installer cannot run. WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, follow these
steps. Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
- At the command prompt, type cd\, and
then press ENTER.
- Type md NewTemp, and then press
ENTER. This creates a folder named NewTemp.
- Type set tmp=c:\NewTemp, and then
press ENTER.
- Type set temp=c:\NewTemp, and then
press ENTER.
- Type CD-ROM drive
letter:\setup, and then press ENTER.
This
should start Money Setup. Note This is a workaround. You may continue to receive error messages
when you install or use programs that require a valid temp directory.
