Volume Settings May Not Persist After Restart (316795)

If you adjust volume settings and then restart your computer, some of the volume settings for the various mixer controls may revert to the default settings. This may occur after you restart the computer several times.
CAUSE
This problem is caused by a sound device that is returning inaccurate data during initialization, because it was not yet ready when it was queried for that data. When this occurs, Windows sets some of the mixer channels to their default volume settings.
RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
