XIMS: SINK Registration Does Not Work on Public Folder If the Folder Is Published by NNTP (316737)

SYMPTOMS

The process to register an event sink for an NNTP published root folder or subfolder does not work and returns error number -2147217837 (method is not supported by this provider).

CAUSE

You cannot register an event sink in a newsgroup root folder because saving any mail messages or files in a newsgroup root folder is not permitted.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
