PRB: Excel Quits When You Save a Workbook That Contains a Visual Basic ActiveX Control (316703)

SYMPTOMS

Excel 2000 may generate an access violation when you save a workbook. This behavior occurs if all of the following conditions exist:
  • You have a default printer with an older version of a Hewlett-Packard or Xerox printer driver installed.
  • The name of the default printer is longer than 18 characters.
  • You insert a Microsoft Visual Basic ActiveX control on a worksheet in the workbook.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods:
  • Install the latest version of the printer driver for your printer.
  • Change the name of the printer so that the name is not longer than 18 characters.
