XADM: Content Indexing of Network News Transfer Protocol Newsfeed May Seem Unresponsive (316570)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q316570 SYMPTOMS
When the Content Indexing service configures indexing for the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) newsfeed public folder, the indexing process may seem unresponsive throughout indexing. This process may not actually be in an unresponsive state. The process may require more time to index the data from the NNTP newsgroups.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Uuencoded data is present in the NNTP newsgroups. Data in Uuencoded format processes like any other text in the newsgroup messages. However, the Uuencoded portion of the message is often very long and complex to index.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, you can either not index folders that are known to contain Uuencoded text or you can wait until the indexing process is complete.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
