XADM: "C00713d4" Error Message Occurs When You Create System Attendant on a Cluster (316567)

SUMMARY

When you attempt to add an additional Exchange virtual server by creating a new Microsoft Exchange System Attendant resource, you may receive the following error message:

This resource cannot be created because the cluster has reached the limit on the number of resources it can monitor.

This behavior can occur after you increase a cluster to more than two nodes because a hard limit is imposed on Exchange 2000 Server to limit the number of Exchange virtual servers that you can create in the cluster. The error message that you receive exposes this limit when you create the System Attendant resource.

The following table lists the limits that apply:

Number of Nodes	Maximum Exchange Virtual Servers
Two Nodes	Maximum of four Exchange virtual servers.
Three Nodes	Maximum of two Exchange virtual servers.
Four Nodes	Maximum of three Exchange virtual servers.

This limit is imposed to ensure maximum reliability of the cluster by ensuring that the cluster is configured to use fewer Exchange virtual servers than nodes. This is defined as an N+1 configuration.

NOTE: If a two node cluster with more than two Exchange virtual servers configured is to be upgraded to a three-node or four-node cluster, the Exchange virtual servers that exceed the limit must be removed.
