SUMMARY

This step-by-step article describes how to disable public folder referrals in Exchange 2000 Server. Public referrals allow users on remote servers to access public folders on local servers. In Exchange 2000 Server, by default, public folder referrals are available. If you do not want users in other routing groups to access public folders through a connector, you must disable public folder referrals.

Steps to Disable Public Folder Referrals

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate through Administrative Groups, First Administrative Group, Routing Groups, and then click to expand the routing group in which you want to work.
  3. Expand the Connectors container, right click the connector in which you want to work, and then click Properties.
  4. On the General tab, click to select the Do not allow public folder referrals check box.
  5. Click OK.
NOTE: In Exchange 2000 Server, by default, the Do not allow public folder referrals check box on the General tab is not selected. If you select this option, you can prevent public folder referrals through the connector. Because public folder affinity is transitive by default in Exchange 2000 Server, public folder referrals are available to all other servers in the connected routing groups. You can avoid this behavior by clicking to select the Do not allow public folder referrals check box.
